[Name supplied] | If you are a member of our libraries you can reserve the book online. First you need to set up a login for the catalogue. Then you can request an item. If you are not a member of our libraries you may be able to request it from your own library either directly or via an Inter Library Loan. |
| 09:34PM 25-07-08 Terminal 800. I've received the following error message: quote; Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request GET /record=b1288488~S1. Reason: Error reading from remote server unquote; upon clicking on one the book in my history reading list. The one I clicked on was 'A history of Durham Cathedral library'. This is a book borrowed from[end of message] | The reason that this has happened is that the item you mention is an Inter Library Loan that we have borrowed from another library, and as such, it is a temporary record that we supress from the web catalogue. We supress Inter Library Loan records because we do not want our users to think that these items belong to us, and we do not wish other users to request these items, as they have only been borrowed from another authority for a limited period. I was surprised to find that titles of surpressed records show up in reading histories (but I can confirm that they do), so I will look at the error mechanism and see if we can display something more appropriate. Please note when we remove the record from the catalogue the entry in your reading history will become an "Information Unavailable" entry and there will no-longer be a link. Thank you for reporting the problem as it is something that we have been unaware of up until now. |

I have been waiting for some DVDs in South Cross Library since a few months ago and surprise that some customers did not return the DVDs back for a long time and nothing can be done, such as post them the overdue letter because they don;t have the computer system so i am waiting and patience for a long time as i have ask the staff to reserve the DVD in March and they said they are not available so i waited and i rang | We do check and actively seek to get overdues returned, since your suggestion some overdue DVDs have been returned to stock. If you have any further problems in receiving requested items from Sout Cross St Librarary, could you contact the library direct telling us which items you are waiting for so that staff can investigate further and then respond directly to you. |

We cannot afford to purchase any more at the moment. However we do continually review the level of stock in all subject areas to keep a balance of the type of materials we are getting, so we may be able to purchase this at a later date. |

I have just tried to renew my books on line and was told that my registration had expired fair enough but it expired back in april so when i took these books out the assistant didn;t ask me for my information to renew my registration thanks [name supplied] | We appologise for this, this is must be due to a staff oversight. We will remind all of our counter staff of the importance of updating your records when the registration expires. We have 3 records in your name on our system and none of them now has an expiry date in April this year. Presumably you have had your registration updated. |

I have problem to search this book as they are not found, are you sure it is right ISBN? | Our catalogue only covers items in stock - it does not include items on order, so you will not be able search for the item untlil we have it. You could set up a preferred search for keyword "Shanti", and get the system to email you when it comes in, provided you have an email account with a provider that does not reject our emails as SPAM. |
| 08:58PM 16-05-08 Terminal 800. HI, A lot of DVDs in South Cross Library which i request have been not response for a nearly 2 months because the customers did not return the DVDs back. As they did not use compyuter systems and they can;t fine them for late return. I have been check myself for one day late then i gave DVD back to the staff they did not fine me for one day late. They did not check the date of how many days allow to hold DVDs. [initial supplied] | The majority of our libraries are computerised, but some of the smaller part-time branch libraries are not (e.g. South Cross St). We are slowly computerising these libraries and this year we will be putting Brandlesholme and Ainsworth Libraries on the system. We hope to extend this to other libraries such as South Cross St as soon as possible. |
| 00:19AM 10-05-08 Terminal 800. It is strange that a lot of DVDs and BOOKS have been loan out and never return to libraries. But have you been checking any of the customers who loan the items to be asking return them to allow other person loan that book. as some of DVDs have been loan out in March which is due to return by March adn they never return to the libraries. please could you sort it out to avoid problem and delay. | We do have a procedure for recovering items that people have had overdue for a long time. This starts with overdue charges and overdue notices and finally for persistantly overdue items the borrower will get a visit from our Stock Recovery Officer. The visits are arranged on a systematic library by library basis so you can appreciate that it may take some time before we can recover some items. |

Why has the site suddenly started to tell me that "this site contains both secure and unsecure items" and asking me to say yes or no for every page? | We have been trialling a catalogue enhancement service from LibraryThing. This has added extra information on the our book info pages which gives links to similar books on the catalogue as well as an alternative form of subject tags e.g. the record for Barking by Tom Holt. The errors you are getting are from a combination of the misplacement of the LibraryThing scripts by us and the fact that these scripts do a plain text look up of books isbns. We have moved the scripts so that they are now only on the book description pages so you should receive a lot fewer errors - however you will still receive them if you login to your record and then look up a books details whilst you are still logged in. We are intouch with LibraryThing to see if they have a solution for this. We would like to continue with the service until the end of the trial so that we can get an idea of the useage of the information. Please note that the scripts only look up book isbns so none of your personal data has been compromised. UPDATE 15/5/2008 - This problem has been fixed. |

I do what Ramsbottom Librry has twice instructed me and STILL the info is not accepted. What does one do? HELP asap. | It is difficult to say why you are not able to login to your record. The service is working and is used regularly. If you are trying to access your record from home it may be something to do with your internet set-up. Another common problem can be caused by mistyping your library barcode. Our Frequently Asked Questions page can give you more information on both of these issues under the headings "Why can't I login?" and "Why can't I request items / renew items / change my record?" |
| 07:26PM 03-04-08 Terminal 800. I made a suggestion for a book purchase some weeks ago, but no reply has been posted. Indeed, the last entry on the "replies to purchase suggestions page" is almost a month old. It should be possible to post some sort of response quickly - even if that response is "no funds" or "under consideration". | We appologise for the delay in answering your stock suggestion, we do an initial screen of suggestions once per week to filter out any suggestion that we already have in stock (we do get them) and post an answer to these quickly. All of the rest of the suggestions then become "under consideration". We only post a response to these suggestions when a decision has been made whether to order the item. The decision making process takes significantly longer than the initial filtering as we need to check whether the details suplied were correct, whether we already have the item on order, whether the item is available for purchase and finally whether we can justify purchasing the item. At this time of year (March / April), reader suggestions do take a lower priority as we concentrate on balancing our orders and receipts for our financial year end. |

Have tried to log in for my reading account ; the number is accepted but not the name however I permutate it Help! | I am not sure how you can tell that the system does not accept your name. If you enter your name, membership number or password incorrectly you end up with the same error message "Sorry the information you supplied was invalid, please try again". It is more likely that you have entered your password or your membership number incorrectly. See the answer to the comment sent in on 03:49PM 21-02-08 (2 comments down) for an explanation of membership numbers. If you have changed your name, it may be possible that we have your old details on record. It would probably be worth contacting your local library to check exactly what is on your record. |

( I would prefer Prestwich). Thank you [name supplied] | It doesn't matter which library the book is from, you can request to pick them up from the library that is most convenient for you. Point 4 of the Request Help shows how you can choose the pickup location whilst making the request. If you think you have made a mistake, you can view your requests from your record, and you can change the location you want to pick up the books from there. |
| 03:49PM 21-02-08 Terminal 800. why can I not log in. Putting in my name and number only comes up invalid entry. Please I know my own name and now know my library number by heart why can I not set up a password | There are a couple of reasons. You may already have a password, if you leave the password space blank you will get the "invalid entry message". If this is the case contact your local library and they can clear the old password so that you can set up a new one. Otherwise you may have misread your library number, this is partially our fault for deciding upon a numbering scheme which ends in a letter when we first computerised. If you have a library number that ends in "O", this is likely to be the letter "o" rather than the number zero. If you have a library number that ends in I, this is likely to be the letter "i" rather than the number one. If it is neither of these, please contact your local library and we can try and sort out this problem together. |

When I click on the 'Modify my personal info' icon it goes to a 'Create a patron identification number (PIN)' page, which doesn't appear to be working. | We currently do not allow people to change their address online, because we require some form of proof of residence. However you should be able to change your PIN / Password here and you are right it doesn't work. We will look into it and get it fixed. UPDATE this has now been fixed. |

I do need them quite quickly, thanks. | When your request is ready for pick-up we send you a letter to tell you. We have had to use post, because when we tried using email we found a lot of our emails were getting rejected as SPAM from a number of our customers email providers. You can also monitor the progress of your request by logging in to your record on the catalogue and following the requests link. When your request is ready the status will read "Ready. Must pick up by [date]". |

| 00:43AM 07-01-08 Terminal 800. I was wondering can I get the site to bring up a list of all audio books you have in stock with an advanced search? I've limited to book on cd but it won't give me a list is it possible or am I trying in vain? | This is possible, Go to advanced search, put a * in the first search box (* is a wildcard character). Limit your material type to 'book on cd', then it would probably be best to choose 'grouped by relevance, sorted by title from the sort options. Press the submit button and you should get the 900 + book on CD titles. |

In the past I only read books with about 50 pages because i could not be bothered reading books with a lot of pages.I sarted reading his books whenl my Dad suggested the Adventure series by Willard Price. | 10:18PM 02-01-08 Terminal 800. I have tried to reserve a book on your website tonight. Every time that I try to Request it from my list of Saved Records I get thrown back to the Login Screen. I have selected a Pickup Location and also ticked the 'Request' box against the book that I require - I have used this successfully in the past so I don't think that I am doing anything wrong. Can you please check to see if there is an error with your website. | The multiple request procedure has been tested and is working. You do need to login before you can request books, so if you haven't already done so you will get sent to the login screen when you try to request a list of saved records. After the login screen you should get offered a pickup location and a list of books that you have requested. It sounds like everything is working so far - perhaps you are not able to request the items because of some issue on your record e.g. too many current requests. Without more detail it is difficult to identify your prolem, you could contact us with more detail and we would be able to investigate further. |
